The Polymerase Chain Reaction

With support and expertise from practising MRC virologists, advanced higher pupils are given an insight into the world of a research scientists. Students use cutting-edge equipment to diagnose mock virus infections. They are guided through the process of using the polymerase chain reaction and other molecular biological techniques with experts on hand to explain the theory and practice. As part of the full day course, participants also consider recent advances in DNA technology and debate the ethical issues surrounding access to your genetic information.
