BBSRC Public Engagement Awards
Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council
http://www.bbsrc.ac.uk/society/funding/public_engagement_awards.html
An annual funding competition, offering funds of up to £5000 to support BBSRC-sponsored researchers, BBSRC-sponsored institutes and BBSRC local coordinators to undertake public engagement activities.
The awards have the following objectives:
• To enable and encourage researchers to take part in public engagement and dialogue
• To enhance public access to research and researchers and raise the awareness of bioscience research and its applications
• To inspire and enthuse the next generation of scientists
The competitive award scheme is open to:
• BBSRC-funded grant-holders
• BBSRC-funded research students
• Member of staff working at a BBSRC-sponsored institute (BI, IFR, RRes, IAH, JIC)
• BBSRC local schools coordinators
The awards provide funding to enable practising researchers to organise public engagement activities. A BBSRC funded researcher, PhD student or local coordinator must be named as the main applicant.
Collaborations with community and special interest groups, with science communicators, through partnerships with learned societies, festivals, museums, libraries or interactive science centres are welcome. In these cases there must be a significant contribution from the researcher(s) or local coordinator. We also welcome applications resulting from collaborations between researchers funded by different Research Councils.
