Scotland aspires to become a "healthy living" nation. To do this we must improve the health record of individuals and apply the advances in biomedical science to benefit all. Science & Technology undoubtedly has a dramatic effect on the lives of citizens in this new century. This is no more clearly evidenced than in the areas of health and biomedical science. As a result it is important that we look to support communities to take control in a world that is rapidly changing and so develop the notion of a "healthy living" nation.
Those who take part in the outreach programme will be taken on a journey through the human body looking at anatomy and given an oppoortunity to experiment and discover facts about their own "amazing" body. Through interacting and experimenting, visitors will be able to understand the importance of nutrition and exercise to the functionality of the body. Participants can then look at how the body performs during exercise within the sport and fitness area; looking at how the body adapts to different levels of activity leading to increased fitness; and in what ways professional athletes can adapt and manipulate their body to perform through training.
Throughout this journey participants will be introduced to the science behind health news stories and be equipped to make key lifestyle changes based on the scientific facts. Through experimentation with interactive exhibits and participation in workshops and science shows, participants will have the unique opportunity to fully investigate this fascinating area of science.
