Mrs Marjorie Smith
Marjorie Smith has taught Biology in various parts of Scotland for the past 30 years, most recently at Dollar Academy. She also works for SAPS/SSERC as a Development Officer.
Marjorie has developed materials to support 5-14 Environmental Studies and secondary Biology and Science courses. Her current focus is on developing novel resources and learning and teaching approaches to help teachers raise scientific issues with their pupils. These involve using a variety of techniques to encourage classroom discussion on controversial topics such as GM foods, test-tube baby technology, global warming, stem cell research and health related issues such as obesity and Type 2 diabetes.
To enable this innovative work to take place Marjorie has been awarded grants from a variety of educational trusts and from industry. She has used this funding to work alongside Scottish local authorities to develop the approaches and to provide the crucial CPD. Marjorie's work has long been regarded as best practice and she is a well known speaker presenting her work for HMIe, LTS, IOB, SSERC and ASE.
