Professor Kenneth Mackenzie Boyd
PhD, FRCPEd
Professor of Medical Ethics and Director of Clinical Skills, Personal and Professional Responsibilities, in the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, University of Edinburgh.
Prof Boyd is General Secretary of the Institute of Medical Ethics, Chair of the Boyd Group on the Use of Animals in Science, and Deputy Editor of the Journal of Medical Ethics (since 2000).
He was a member of the Nuffield Bioethics Council Working Party on the Ethics of Research involving Animals (2003-2005).
Prof Boyd is currently a member of the BBSRC Bioscience for Society Strategy Panel.
Selected publications
Prof Boyd was co-author (with J A Smith) of Lives in the Balance: The Ethics of Using Animals in Biomedical Research (Oxford University Press, 1991) and co-author of Nursing Ethics, 5th edition (Churchill Livingston, 2006). He was co-editor of The New Dictionary of Medical Ethics, BMJ Publications 1997.
